Urban Youth Collaborative
Urban Youth Collaborative Makes Headlines!
UYC was featured in the local San Diego newpapers and on TV News for their project this summer to clean up our schools in prpeparation for the start of the school year. This activity included over 1200 volunteers, in addition to 300 local US Navy volunteers, and about 35 members of the Boy Scouts.
"Connecting San Diego's Kids to the Kingdom"
Urban Youth Collaborative (UYC) is a non-profit that connects kids to the resources of the kingdom of God by linking churches to schools. We operate motivational lunch clubs at 38 urban public schools in San Diego. Our empowering program draws 1,500 junior and senior high students every week. By pointing to healing, hope, and transformation because of Jesus, we teach skills for this life and the next. All students are welcome to join us, regardless of background or perspective.
Why We Exist
* We exist to equip young people in San Diego's urban community to live life to the fullest. We believe this translates to academic achievement, life skills, financial literacy, job readiness, healthy relationships, servant-leadership development, and spiritual well-being. When Jesus talks about "life to the fullest" in God's kingdom (John 10:10), he wants us ready for this life and the next.
* We believe the Bible commands us to love others holistically by caring for the needs of the entire person.
* As kids discover the good news of Jesus and God's kingdom, we want to connect interested students into a local church where they can heal, discover their gifts, and become change agents that impact their campuses, neighborhood, and world.
* This mission is so big, it requires us to work with others in kingdom collaboration. When everyone selflessly contributes for the common goal, we can accomplish what would be impossible otherwise.
