The Stephen Ministry provides confidential, one-on-one care, by trained lay ministers for those who are dealing with a crisis or a difficult time in their life. We help anyone in need, whether or not the person is a member of our church.
The crises and difficulties for which people call on a Stephen Minister include such things as physical or emotional illness, loneliness, family difficulties, divorce, grief, issues with work, and financial problems. Whether your need is for a few weeks or a few years, a Stephen Minister will meet with you on a weekly or as-needed basis and give you the emotional and spiritual support that you need during your time of struggle. If you would like to discuss having the care and support of a Stephen Minister, call one of the following:
Referrals Coordinator: Barbara Bennett, , (858) 484-4974.
If you have a friend or family member or acquaintance who is in a time of struggle and who could benefit by having a Stephen Minister, the first step is to tell the person about the ministry and ask if it’s okay if you have someone contact them. If so, then call one of the three persons listed above and give them the information. They will then contact the person.
A Stephen Minister is a Christian who has the gift of compassion and is willing to develop the skills to be a care giver in a one-on-one relationship with someone who is in a time of struggle. The Stephen Ministry is a Christ-centered, confidential ministry of support for those in need-- whether members of our church or members of our community. Stephen Ministers work with people who are dealing with such issues as a time of grief, depression, anxiety, family problems, marital struggles, and various crises of life. Stephen Ministers engage in 50 hours of professional training under Drs. Bob and Jeanette Lauer. If you are interested in the possibility of becoming a Stephen Minister, please call one of the following to discuss what is involved or to schedule an interview:
Training Coordinator: Laura McDermott, , (858) 487-0811, ext. 221.
