Nominating Committee
“Experience Transformation as a Church Leader:
Become an Elder or Deacon”
Mission Statement:
Through Christ, we nominate spiritual leaders who are willing to be transformed as they serve RBCPC and our community beyond the church walls.
Use Your Gifts:
Each of us has many gifts. As Paul stated in his letter to the Romans, each of us receives gifts, spiritual and physical, that can be used to further the kingdom of God. Romans 12:4-6 “ For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we being many are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given us, let us use them…”
Nominee Criteria
a. Have a heart for Christ and a desire to do God’s will.
b. Be a member of RBCPC in good standing.
c. Be a loyal and dedicated and faithful Christian, as supported by other members at RBCPC.
d. Be able to commit to a three year term of monthly meetings.
Elders: An Elder is a spiritual leader who helps discern God's direction for the church and supports staff as they implement the church's ministries. Elders make it a priority to be a disciple of Jesus and to disciple others. An Elder is also an administrator with the gift of leadership, one who serves the church as a member of Session by assisting with strategic planning and decision-making, to carry out the vision of God's plan. Elders might serve as committee chairs, ministry helpers and liaisons to team leaders, staff and congregation under the direction of RBCPC pastors. Elders participate in a variety of teams, such as Administration/Finance, Human Resources, Nominating Committee, Worship, Congregational Care and Mission Committees as active members and leaders.
Deacons: a Deacon is a spiritual leader who is shares God’s love with the church and throughout our community. Deacons make it a priority to identify and surface needs of our members and in the community and take steps to address those needs. Deacons provide essential ministries for congregational care, such as the visitation/ flower ministry, church shuttle for ill and elderly, family assistance, memorial service coordination, preparation, clean up and serving of communion, food bank (treasure box) and supports Parish Nurses and Stephen’s Ministries.

Elise Giles, Elder 2009-2011 term:
“I have been blessed beyond any expectations during my participation as an Elder on Session. Not only have I gotten to know our Pastors and Staff better, but I have gained valuable insight into myself as well. I led the team that completed the Journey Wall for RBCPC that we posted last year, and it was a very rewarding experience. It gave me an appreciation for what a fantastic church we have, for its past and current members, and it excited me for what the future holds for RBCPC. I definitely recommend that each member consider being an Elder or Deacon, not only for the chance to serve the church in a meaningful way, but also for the transformation you will undergo while serving!”
Look for us on the Courtyard all Sundays in May. Visit our table for more information on becoming an Elder and Deacon. Talk with existing Elders and Deacons that can share their experience of serving RBCPC with you.
Brad Giles, Deacon 2008-2010 term:
“I became a Deacon in 2008, and now serve as the Treasurer for the Deacons. During my 3 years as a Deacon, I have really enjoyed taking my commitment to Christ and to the church to a deeper level. I especially value my time with Pastor Mofid Wasef, for the amazing example he shares with the Deacons and for his tremendous capacity of caring for our members and others in the community. If you have any doubts about serving as a Deacon, please reconsider how God, other members and our Pastors will help you grow in faith and service. My time as a Deacon has been very rewarding.”
Sharon Ellis
Being a deacon here at RBCPC has been one of the best experiences of my Christian life. This church has developed a variety of creative, sensitive way of helping those who need comfort or assistance, and it's a thrill to be a part of it. Service as a deacon is a "hands on" way of communicating God's love and concern, and the reward is great. As you give a hand up, offer an encouraging word or meet a very practical need, you're serving those whom God dearly loves, and it's a great honor.
