Background information:

Pastor Bruce Humphrey has been invited by Dr. Vandari Levis of Jesus College and the Himalaya Mission to be the featured speaker for their seminary graduation as well address over 1000 pastors for a pastor’s conference in Katmandu Nepal.  Bruce’s leadership book has been handed out in the Nepalese language to 10,000 pastors in Nepal.  Since Christianity represents only 1% of the population of Nepal and these pastors serve in isolated villages and are frequently persecuted, the desire is to lift their spirits and inspire them to remain faithful in difficult circumstances.

The nation of Nepal recently declared itself open to religions other than Hindus.  It had formerly been a nation with Hinduism as the national religion.  Today there is about 1% Christianity in the country.

Kate’ Humphrey's role will be to address pastor wives and to identify expectations and potential stresses in that relationship.   She will also make recordings, e.g. photographs, that will be used to make a presentation at a Mission Evening in the sanctuary to those members of the congregation wishing to attend.

If you are interested in going on this mission trip, please contact Bruce Humphrey for more information.

Purpose: Bruce has been invited by Dr. This mission was formerly supported by RBCPC and they are asking our missions team to explore whether we want to reconnect with this mission financially.

Missions Touchstones:

Commitment: The Himalayan Mission runs a seminary to raise up new pastors for villages in Nepal.  They proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Competency: This mission has been in operation for more than ten years with financial records and a proven history of graduating successful pastors in a Hindu dominated culture.

Evangelism: The goal of seminary graduates is to plant and grow churches that introduce people to Jesus Christ.

Equipped: Dr. Vandari Levis has his doctorate from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena. He founded and heads this seminary.

Sensitivity: The nation of Nepal recently declared itself open to religions other than Hindus.  It had formerly been a nation with Hinduism as the national religion.  Today there is about 1% Christianity in the country.  I will be reading and preparing for cultural sensitivities just I do for other cultures.  Excellent book series is the CULTURE SHOCK series that helps Americans understand foreign cultures.

Reliability: The hopes of this mission include reconnecting with RBCPC.  They were formerly supported by our church when Mission Pastor Don Buteyn was the connection.  Our hopes are to explore possible connections with our church and then by way of presentation to the congregation, in a mission evening, identify any willingness in the RBCPC congregation to provide them with active and on-going support. If such support is identified then an investigatory mission trip would be proposed so that the advocates of this renewed mission could identify the role RBCPC would undertake.

Accountability: Bruce will be speaking several times.  Not only will he be a featured speaker for seminary graduation, but also address over 1000 pastors who hold their annual conference in conjunction with graduation.  Kate’s role will be to address pastor wives to identify expectations and potential stresses in that relationship.   She will also make recordings, e.g. photographs, that will be used to make a presentation at a Mission Evening in the sanctuary to those members of the congregation wishing to attend.
