MOTE - Americans in Mexico’s Prisons

La Mesa prison was Mexico’s ninth-most violent prison and we have witnessed the transformation of this prison through the power of the Holy Spirit into the model prison for other Mexican prisons to follow.

  • Established a men’s Christian ministry and later a women’s ministry which are visited weekly by local volunteer pastors and men and women devoted to bringing God’s word to the inmates. Christian Bible Study (CBS) is also taught in the prison.
  • Locates relatives of American prisoners who may not be aware that a family member is incarcerated in a Mexican prison.
  • Delivers mail to the prison, provides writing materials and stamps, picks up inmates’ mail to be posted in the United States, deposits money in the prison bank for inmates, and provides help with arranging for documents for prison transfer to the United States. M.O.T.E. provides basic hygiene products to the American inmates (this is especially important to female prisons). When allowed, M.O.T.E takes in medical supplies as well as wheel chairs, walkers, and crutches.
  • Works with families who are destitute and cannot provide for themselves or for their relative in prison. M.O.T.E is very conscious of children whose parent or parents are in prison.
  • Provides gifts for inmates’ children during the Christmas holiday.
