God Loves
While “God hates…” may make headlines, God’s love makes the difference.
Having an out-of-state group show up in Rancho Bernardo gives us the opportunity to clarify who we are as a congregation. While this other group holds signs that proclaim “God hates,” we seek to live our lives according to Jesus’ great commandment, “Love God and love your neighbor as yourself.” We believe that the best way to change the world for good is to first let God transform us, and then become contagious carriers of God’s love. We believe Jesus died for sinners and we are aware that all of us need forgiveness. As we state regularly in our worship times together, “Jesus transforms us so that we can help change the world.” As the Bible says, “Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:21
Some scriptures about love:
- Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 1 John 4:7
- Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:8
- But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
- Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good. Romans 12:9
- Love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:10
- Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. Romans 13:10
- ...God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. 1 John 4:16
- We love because he first loved us. Those who say, ‘I love God’, and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. 1 John 4:19-20
