Art and Architecture
Art and architecture at RBCPC is focused on the theme "River of Life," taken from imagery found in Revelation.
Starting at the courtyard fountain, visitors read John's vision of heaven, "The angels showed me the River of Life." They are reminded that "The Spirit of God was hovering over the waters" at the creation. Worshipers pass by the baptismal font at the entrance to the sanctuary, reminding us that we are united to Christ through our own baptisms. The aisle runners that lead God's people into his presence are custom-made abstract designs of flowing water in brilliant primary colors. The River of Life theme culminates in the blue-splashed stained glass clerestory window that arches over the entire worship space. Additional clerestory windows illustrate communion themes, grapes and grain, as well as one focusing light upon the Holy Spirit in the north window. The side windows on the main floor were retained from the previous sanctuary design, illustrating, on the east, the hand of God at creation and the dove of the Holy Spirit, on the west. Departing worshipers who pass by the courtyard fountain are encouraged by John's prophecy, "From the believers will flow living waters."
The entire campus is filled with the beauty of sacred art. Hand carved wooden doors at the main entrance match the doors to the church's Memorial Chapel at the opposite end of the Art Gallery. More traditional stained glass, designed by Judson Studios of Los Angeles, inspires worshipers who enter its serene neo-colonial atmosphere.
The campus itself is a work of art. You are always welcome to contemplate the many beautiful spaces, all of which have been lovingly planned to be places of prayer, inspiration and rest. The Arts Forum Gallery, changing every six weeks, presents an array of local and regional creativity. Come often to see what's new!
