POMPEII: Burial of a Time Capsule

A vividly illustrated program about theeruption ofMt. Vesuvius and the burial of the city and what it reveals about the lives of Christians of the Roman Empire.

Dr. Florence Gillman is Professor of Biblical Studies at the University of San Diego. She lectures internationally and holds a doctorate in New Testament from the University of Louvain, Belgium. Her specializations include the letters of Paul and early Christianity in the ancient world.

Many of our seniors have asked for a fellowship time during the summer months when Prime Time is not in session.

The entertainment is followed by a light lunch at noon.

Savvy Travelers 2008 Schedule

May 17  -  Queen Mary

A guided tour of the majestic Queen Mary that has a rich history.  Join us for a lovely lunch on board with time to browse about and enjoy the sea air.

June 5  -  Mission Inn in Riverside

One of the loveliest Inns in California.  The grounds are as palatial as the interior rooms.  We will have a docent guided tour followed by a delicious lunch in the large dining room.  There will be time to visit the museum.

July 10  -  Harbor Cruise

A two hour narrated cruise of the San Diego Harbor with lunch at Seaport Village.  Time to enjoy the beautiful skyline of San Diego.

September 13 – Getty Villa

A beautiful Villa in Pacific Palisades, recently renovated with beautiful grounds and filled with art work.  No host lunch.

October 8  -  Old Town Trolley

Ding, ding, ding goes our chartered trolley as we board it at the church for a tour of San Diego.  Lunch in Old Town.

November 6  -  Music Museum & Canine Companions

Tap your foot and enjoy the music, lunch together and then we’re off on a tour to see the trained dogs to be companions to those in need.

Windjammers

2nd Friday of each month, 6:30, Fellowship Center

Windjammers are excited about a New Year and our upcoming programs. We are looking forward to welcoming new people and being with our good faithful friends. We have a time of fellowship followed by our dinner and our program.

Prime Time

Thursday Mornings, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The Prime Time program was started twenty three years ago and has been a highly successful ministry to our seniors. Our format and programs are directed at people over sixty, couples and singles, who enjoy meeting others, hearing interesting speakers and entertaining programs. A delicious hot meal is prepared by our chef and served by our crew of volunteers at noon. Prime Time is an outreach to the seniors of RBCPC, as well as to the entire North County senior community.

We recently received a note from one of our members who lives in a retirement community. Her  comments are typical of those expressed by many of our seniors. “I want you to know that we are grateful for the care that Prime Time takes to meet the needs of seniors who have reached the stage in life when they need fellowship. The instrument that you provide, the meeting opportunities that you suggest to us are real contributions to the older members of our church and are invaluable. We appreciate your giving hearts.”

A non member of RBCPC informed us,” This was my first time for a Prime Time event. I appreciate the friendly fellowship shown by members to a complete stranger such as me. I do not attend your church but was very impressed that there was a place to go to temporarily take my mind off of my personal problems and also meet other people my age.

Primetime will return again on Thursday, October 2, 2008 with live entretainment and a gourmet lunch.

Senior Transportation Host/Hostess Needed

We need people to ride along with the seniors riding the RBCPC bus to church, as the bus driver is busy driving. We also want them to know we care about them, and appreciate that for most of them, their one outing a week is to attend Worship Services.

As a host or hostess, we ask that you:

(1) Ride the senior bus on Sunday Morning before or after the 8:30 or 11:30 services;

(2) Welcome the seniors as they board;

(3) Have fun and enjoy the company of these lovely people; and

(4) You can ride as a couple or a single person.

Bible Study for Seniors

Tuesdays, 9:30 am, The Remington Club, 16916 Hierba Drive, Rancho Bernardo

This class is open to all seniors, including those who are not residents at the Remington Club. It offers Bible study, rich fellowship and a meaningful and inspiring moment in the middle of each week. Contact Kay Phillips at kathrynmurline@cox.net for more information.
