Cascade
The Cascade initiative of Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church (RBCPC) in very basic terms is an attempt to help our church be more than a place where people from the community can come to find God. We hope to create avenues for the people of God to go and be instruments of blessing in our community.
It’s a new way:
- of understanding how to be the church with less focus on being a place, and more focus on being a people of God.
- of following Jesus as his disciples. Our good works must flow from a changed character and not from an expectation of religious behavior.
- of recognizing what God is doing in our communities and how we might participate with him.
Key Ideas:
- Missional – In a word, this describes our “sent-ness” as the people of God participating with Him in his work of redeeming and restoring this world.
- Discipleship – We’re not using this word in the way you might traditionally think of it. This is the process of becoming the kind of person inwardly that Jesus is inwardly.
- Listening and Discerning – We believe God is doing something in this world, city, and community, therefore it is important to pay attention to what He is doing and to come alongside that.
- Calling or Vocation – This important concept shapes our approach on outreach into the community. We believe that everyone has a calling, which for many of us looks ordinary, but is profoundly sacred.
