History

From our humble beginnings at the Swim and Tennis Club, Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church, under the leadership of Rev. Henry Green dedicated the Sanctuary on May 1, 1966.

Historical RBCPC Preschool In the early years we intentionally sought to grow relationships with families. We started a preschool, in what was predominantly a retirement community. From that small class of 20, in 1967, we've grown to serve over 800 families each year.

We soon out grew our first sanctuary and a larger one was built in 1978. Included with the growth was a 2 story education building. Providing more opportunities for people to become disciples through classes and bible studies.

In 1987, Dr. Woody Garvin became the senior pastor and pushed our focus to touch the world. We started to see people serve everywhere. We sent a team of 500 to Mexico, with Habitat for Humanity. The thrift store, now our Resale Shops, opened to care for our local community and fund the mission projects and people serving everywhere. We also welcomed a growing Arabic Speaking Congregation who needed a place to meet.

Dr. Bruce Humphrey came on as the senior pastor in 1998. He brought with him an emphasis on people becoming passionate about living and serving like Jesus. Our second sanctuary could not hold the people who came each week and a larger Sanctuary and office space was built. We added a Wednesday Night Suppers as a place to grow relationships before people engaged in the many classes geared to help people become disciples.

This is our history so far and from it we know what the future holds. We will continue to Become Disciples + Serve Everywhere + Grow Relationships as we seek to live out our faith in Christ.
